FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before contacting us via email or the form below, please review our frequently asked questions below to see if an answer is already available.

We do our best to answer questions in a timely fashion, but please note that because of the volume of email we receive, and our limited resources, we may not be able to respond to every inquiry.   If you don't see an answer to your question, please contact us via email or at the form below.

Questions about Requesting Rosaries

Are the Rosaries really free?

Yes, our Rosaries are really free. We will give away one free Rosary to each household.  And yes, we’re aware that the same kind of Rosaries are sold for upwards of $20+ plus shipping online. Our goal is to get people to pray the Rosary. Plastic bead Rosaries are easy to find and are frequently given away in parishes, but there’s something unique about a knotted Rosary that draws people to it and makes people want to pray with it. To us, that makes giving them away even more important. If the price of a nice Rosary is keeping you from praying it, then we want to remove that obstacle.

Can I request more than one free Rosary?

Rosary Army is happy to provide one free all-twine knotted Rosary per household.  If you would like more than one, then we encourage you to join our mission and learn how to make these unique Rosaries to freely give away to others yourself.  Find more information here.

How can you afford to give away free Rosaries?

We are completely dependent on the financial and Rosary donations of others to allow us to provideyou and others with a free Rosary. If you can financially support this ministry, please do. We need your help.

Monetary donations we receive go toward the costs of shipping, buying supplies such as Crucifixes and twine, making photocopies of instructional material that we freely distribute with our Rosaries, paying contractors fees and employees, our multimedia productions, our office rent and utilities, and other operational costs.  We completely depend on the word of mouth and the generosity of people who visit this website and believe in this apostolate. If you can help us, please do. We’d very much appreciate it.

I don't have a printer and can't print your request form.

If you're unable to download and/or print our Rosary request form, a written request is fine.  Please legibly write your name, address, and preferred color of Rosary and send it to:

I am unable to get stamps or physically mail my request.  Can I just send my request via email?

Unfortunately, because of the volume of email we receive, we cannot accept requests via email.

If you are unable to send your request via US Mail, please submit your free Rosary request via our online form (requires a minimal $1 donation to cover our processing fees).

If you do not have a debit or credit card, and are unable to send a request via standard mail, we apologize for not being able to assist you, but encourage you to contact your local parish as most parishes have some Rosaries available to provide for those who need one.

I live outside the United States. Do you send a free Rosary to other countries?

Yes, we do ship internationally, but with a couple caveats.

First, we ask that international requests help us cover our shipping costs. Therefore, to request a Rosary to be sent to Canada or other countries, please use our online submission form here.

Once you enter your country, the system will automatically apply a $10 shipping charge.  Secondly, just as an FYI, we've noticed that international orders often take much longer to get through the mail.  For example, on average, it takes about a month for a Rosary to arrive in other countries once we've shipped it.

Questions about Making/Donating Rosaries

Are donations of all-twine knotted Rosaries to Rosary Army tax deductible?

Yes! As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, donations of all-twine knotted Rosaries (no beaded or plastic Rosaries accepted) that are submitted with our official Rosary donation form and adhere to our submission standards are tax deductible.

How many Rosary makers are a part of Rosary Army?

Rosary Army does not keep an official roster of people who have learned how to make all-twine knotted Rosaries from our online instructions and resources.  Knowing that not all Rosary makers who learn from us directly give Rosaries back to Rosary Army, we encourage people to first give away as many all-twine knotted Rosaries as they can to people they know: their families, friends, fellow parishioners, and anyone they happen to meet.  When they have a surplus because they can't stop making these addictive Rosaries, then we invite them to send those Rosaries to us to give away through our website, one at a time.

What we do know is that since the beginning of Rosary Army in 2003, every free Rosary we've sent out has included not only instructions for praying the Rosary, but illustrated instructions for making all-twine knotted Rosaries.  Additionally, our online video for making Rosaries has well over 100,000 views.  Between the video, downloads of our printable instructions, and the instructions we send with each Rosary, this means that countless thousands of people have been introduced to making all-twine knotted Rosaries by Rosary Army.

So while we'll never know the exact number of individuals, groups, schools, and others that have learned to make Rosaries from Rosary Army's website and videos, the stories that have been shared with us over the years never cease to amaze us.

Do you offer a Rosary-making starter kit or other supplies for making Rosaries?

At this time, Rosary Army does not offer starter kits or other supplies for making Rosaries.  We do provide a list, however, of twine and Crucifix suppliers

I don’t want to order a whole spool of twine. Can I get enough from you to just make a couple?

Rosary Army does not provide actual Rosary making supplies such as twine and Crucifixes. We do provide a list, however, of twine and Crucifix suppliers.  But at this time, we offer to pay all shipping costs to send Rosaries to others and all operational costs for Rosary Army and our website, as well as all of the Rosaries that we make and give away on our own. We can only afford these things through the generosity of people such as yourselves.

Do you accept Rosaries with plastic Crucifixes?

We prefer metal Crucifixes on our Rosaries, but we also gladly accept plastic Crucifixes as well, as military personnel and prisoners (in some cases) are more apt to being allowed to have these kinds of Crucifixes than they would be metal ones. While we don’t distribute as many of these, we tend to hold onto them until a request comes in for these specific types of Crucifixes. While requests are few and far between for these kinds Crucifixes, we believe that if the Rosaries are there, then Mary will find a use for them. As a caveat, military branches prefer the black plastic Crucifixes on dark twine, and prisons usually ask for white Crucifixes on white Rosaries.

Do you accept or give away plastic or beaded Rosaries?

Thanks for your willingness to donate Rosaries for Rosary Army to freely give away, but we only accept donations of all-twine knotted Rosaries with a metal Crucifix.  Please see our Rosary donation submission guidelines for more information.

I want to make a knotted cross on my Rosary. Do you have instructions for doing this?

As pointed out by Pope John Paul II in his Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae: “Here the first thing to note is the way the beads converge upon the Crucifix, which both opens and closes the unfolding sequence of prayer. The life and prayer of believers is centered upon Christ. Everything begins from him, everything leads towards him, everything, through him, in the Holy Spirit, attains to the Father.” (36)

Because one of the primary reasons to pray the Rosary is to meditate on the life of Jesus Christ, we believe that looking at a Crucifix while praying helps us tremendously in our meditations. Therefore, we encourage Rosary makers to put actual metal Crucifixes on their Rosaries.

How do I start a branch of Rosary Army at our parish?

We currently have no official Rosary Army “branches,” but this is something we are actively planning for the future. But that doesn’t mean you can’t start a Rosary making group in your own parish! The best way to start a Rosary making group is to first start making Rosaries yourself. Once you’re comfortable with that, contact your pastor and ask permission to teach others in your parish how to make Rosaries. Additionally, you can invite someone from Rosary Army to come speak at your parish and teach others how to make Rosaries.

How do I volunteer with Rosary Army?

Our needs are many!  The best way to volunteer with Rosary Army is to identify a need you think you can fill and contact us with a specific way to help.  One of the best ways to volunteer with Rosary Army is to make knotted Rosaries and send them to us!

I want a Rosary Army T-Shirt
