  • Caption this photo contest

I took this photo of Greg while he was checking his iPhone email while laying down.  We WERE having a conversation.  In fact, I just asked if he could help me out and feed our youngest son.  I couldn’t help but notice his amazing ability to remain almost frozen in this exact position for several minutes.  And then I looked even closer and noticed his eyes.

In all my years of seeing him sleep, I’ve never found him in this position before.  So, just to make things a little fun, I thought I would open this photo up for a caption contest.  So if you desire, go ahead and leave your caption blurbs in our comment section of this post!

  • How to Beat FOCA and Grassroots Films

How to Beat FOCA and Grassroots Films

defending_life_hostFather Frank Pavone from Priests for Life was on the program today and encouraged everyone to already start contacting your local representatives to tell them you do not want them supporting FOCA. The louder people are against this bill before it is even introduced, the better the chance it’ll show up D.O.A.

If you don’t know how to find your local representatives, check out the Priests For Life website here.

And yesterday Joe Campo from Grassroots Films stopped by. Be sure to check out the trailer for their new film, The Human Experience, as well as their other films!

  • That Catholic Show – I Confess

Here’s the video we talked about on today’s program. If you have questions about Reconciliation, be sure to check out the Catechism starting with paragraph 1422.

  • Title Track From the Debut Album

After a roaring debut on today’s edition of The Catholics Next Door, the brand new band Venezuelan Ministry of Defense has recorded two different versions of their title song from their new CD, And Wealthy And Dead.

    We hope you enjoy them.

If you do a cover for YOUR band name, here are the rules:

    1. You must mention the name of your CD in the song
    2. You must use the secret words of either antelope or cantelope
    3. There must be some sort of Catholic message in your song.

If you record one, send it to us at [email protected] and we’ll play your tune on the air!

  • What’s Your Band Name?

    What’s Your Band Name?

For two weeks in a row, Kyle from Popple has posted something cool. He rocks. Maybe it’s because he’s getting married next month, which will make him a more complete person and he is getting closer to completeness.

Anyway, ever wonder what your name would be if you were in a band?

    Here’s what you do:

    1. Band Name: Random Wikipeda Link
    2. Album Title: Random quote generator (take the last four words from the first quote on the page)
    3. Album Art: Flickr Interesting Photo (pick one)

My Band Name: Venezuelan Ministry of Defense
My Album Title: and wealthy and dead (That’s totally depressing!)

  • Homemade Pie for XM Listeners (and links!)

Actually, this pie isn’t for XM Listeners. But we’re glad you’re here anyway! Welcome to all new folks who are here after listening to The Catholics Next Door on either Sirius 159 or now on XM 117. How cool is that!?!

But this is an actual pie, the pie talked about on yesterday’s program. This cherry pie is an old family favorite for some good friends of ours and our son, Sam really wanted this pie for his 11th birthday.

For cherry pie, this was really good. I don’t even like cherry pie. I’m so glad Sam loved it. Thanks Linda!!

And here are links to some of the guests and things we’ve been discussing lately:

Again, welcome to all XM 117 listeners, as well as our already good friends from Sirius! Very glad you’re here 🙂

  • Loopholes – The Official Cereal of The Catholics Next Door

Ever looking for a quick excuse to get out of something? Need to quickly avoid following Church teaching? Well now there’s a delicious new Loopholes (TM) Cereal! The Official Cereal of The Catholics Next Door!*

    Mmm, mmm…tasty!

Thanks to our guests from the past couple of days:

*DISCLAIMER: Confessions not included. The Catholics Next Door take no responsibility if you do something stupid to avoid doing what you’re supposed to. Because this is a ridiculous day and age where some people take things too seriously, this is a complete joke and we highly recommend you don’t bother looking for loopholes to get out of Catholic teachings. Those teachings are good for you. Get used to it.

  • Rosary Army Podcast on uStream

Tonight we needed to record a promo for The Catholics Next Door, so we figured it would also be a great opportunity to finally get out a new episode of the Rosary Army Podcast.

We’ll post the podcast in our regular Rosary Army Catholic Podcast feed tomorrow, but for now, here’s a the recording of the live uStream we did of both the recording of the promo, as well as the podcast. Enjoy!

  • Moose TV, Greg’s Write-In Vote, and Tons O’Links

    Victorious.

After three weeks, there’s no other word for how it felt to finally be mounting our television on our living room wall.

Such a ridiculously good feeling. Things are coming together, at last.

After seeing the photo to the left, I realized I was past due for a haircut, as well. I look like St. Francis of Assisi in disguise or something.

And the next picture is just moments after hanging the television, checking to make sure the all important video games still work.

To show my appreciation to our good friend Moose, he of Kaiteur Coffeehouse (best coffee drinks in the world – plug, plug, plug), I even wrote his name in when I voted early yesterday.

    No joke.

Check out the last picture as proof.

Vote Moose for U.S. Representative in the 111th Congress From the 4th Congressional District of Georgia!

Okay, all kidding aside, we’ve been promising you a boat load of links from the last few broadcasts of The Catholics Next Door. Thanks in advance for your patience. Be sure to check these out!

First off, thanks to Dina Cheney, author of The Tasting Club for introducing us to some incredible new dark chocolates! She’ll be back on our program on October 22 to introduce us to the last dark chocolate. Can’t wait! Dina also recommended that we check out Chocosphere.com for access to tons of great chocolate. Caution to you chocoholics before clicking that link – it’s got some mighty, mighty good stuff there!

Also, Fr. Leo Patalinghug stopped by the program again last week. Be sure to check out his awesome Grace Before Meals webisodes over on his website.

After eating all that chocolate and food from Fr. Leo, if you want to get in shape, here’s a link to the USA Today Article about the new federal exercise guidelines. There are also a lot of other links in that USA Today article about eating right and other important guidelines.

From Monday, here is the link of all of the Scripture references found throughout the typical Catholic Mass. Pretty cool read!

And lastly, here is the website of Berke Breathed, creator of Opus and Bloom County. He’s killing Opus. May the poor penguin rest in peace.

  • Grilled PB, Chocolate & Cheese Sandwich

Grilled PB, Chocolate & Cheese Sandwich

As caller Mike from Texas suggested on today’s broadcast of The Catholics Next Door, we made the Peanut Butter-Chocolate Chip-American Cheese sandwich on Wheat. It was not bad. We were actually surprised that we were able to eat the whole sandwich. Below, the sandwich is cooking away with butter spread on the outside of the bread.

But we make good on our promises. If we say we’re gonna do it, by golly, we’re gonna do it! Now the big question is: Will you dare to try it yourself? If so, be sure and leave us your sandwich review in our comments section. Below, the completed sandwich:

Jennifer takes a tentative bite. Would this be a disaster, or a brand new treat we really didn’t need to know about?

And finally, she contemplates the rich taste and texture. Not too bad! Probably won’t be a recurring treat like peanut and bacon is for Greg, but it’s still pretty good!
